Course Description
The course teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. Students have the opportunity to attend this course using a quality strong side hip holster that covers the trigger, or a holster purse. From a review of safe firearms handling and proper mindset to presentation from concealment and multiple shooting positions, this course contains the essential skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life-threatening situation.
Course Goal
To successfully prepare law abiding citizens to have the tactical edge in deadly force scenarios. Our goal is to effectively develop you to have the proper mindset and tactics necessary to overcome a physical threat from an armed attacker.
Course Instructor
All coursework presented through Tactical Recovery Network are taught by state certified & highly qualified law enforcement instructors with over ten years experience in their perspective fields. All instructors are committed to bringing out the best in their students regardless of their experience level.
Lessons
Lesson I: Introduction To Concealed Carry Safety & The Defensive Mindset (1 hour: classroom)
Learning Objectives: Students will develop the ability to explain:
The importance of carrying and using a handgun responsibly and ethically for personal protection outside the home.
How the three fundamental NRA rules for safe gun handling apply when carrying or using a concealed handgun outside the home.
Special safety considerations that must be observed when carrying or using a concealed handgun outside the home
The various techniques for storing a handgun safely outside the home.
The four levels of awareness and how they apply to concealed carry outside the home.
Lesson II: Introduction To Self-Defense & Concealed Carry (1 hour: classroom)
Learning Objectives: Students will develop the ability to explain:
The importance of mental preparation and developing the proper mindset for carrying and using a handgun for personal protection and facing a life-threatening encounter outside the home.
Techniques for avoiding life-threatening confrontations outside the home.
The psychological and physiological changes that may occur during an attack
The differences between having a firearm for personal protection in the home and carrying a handgun for personal protection outside the home.
Techniques for controlling and responding to a violent encounter outside the home.
The emotional, legal and social aftermath of a defensive shooting outside the home.
Lesson III: Legal Aspects of Concealed & Self Defense
(1 hour: classroom)
Learning Objectives: Students will develop the ability to:
Explain the general rights and restrictions under laws permitting the carrying of concealed handguns for self-defense.
State key legal provisions and restrictions pertaining to the use of deadly force outside the home.
Explain potential criminal and civil legal actions that may be taken subsequent to a defensive encounter outside the home.
Explain where to find detailed legal information within the local jurisdiction.
Lesson IV: Carry Modes & Concealment (1 hour: classroom)
Learning Objectives: Through participation, students will develop the ability to:
Identify the various handgun concealed carry modes and the benefits and limitations of each.
Explain the basic principles of handgun concealment as they relate to the carrying of a handgun for self defense outside the home.
Lesson V: Presenting Handgun From Concealment
(1.5 hours: range)
Learning Objectives: Through participation, students will be able to:
Explain and demonstrate the technique for safely presenting a concealed handgun and re-holstering
Lesson VI: Presentation, Position & Movement
(2 hours: range)
Learning Objectives: Through participation, students will be able to present a concealed handgun and shoot targets in the center of mass:
After moving to a high barricade
Engaging two targets
Using aimed fire technique with strong hand only
Using point shooting technique with two hands
Using point shooting technique with strong hand only
Lesson VII: Special Shooting Techniques ( 5 hours: range)
Learning Objectives: Through participation in this lesson, students will be able to present a concealed handgun, conduct speed reloading, clear stoppages of their handguns and shoot targets in the center of mass:
Using hip shooting techniques with the strong hand only
Moving rearward, stopping and shooting.
From standing to kneeling behind a low barricade
From standing to squatting behind a low barricade
Moving to a low barricade, then kneeling or squatting.
From sitting to standing.
From standing, turning left 90 degrees to target
From standing, turning right 90 degrees to target
From standing, turning left 180 degrees to target
From standing turning right 180 degrees to target
Engaging target at extended range
Engaging target under low light conditions.
Lesson VIII: Training/Sport Opportunities Learning Objectives: Through participation, students will be able to:
Identify organizations, associations, clubs, and businesses that may help them hone, enhance, and expand personal protection skills.
Explain the methods and precautions for dry-fire practice, including drawing from the holster.
Lesson IX: Course Review & Examination
(1 hour: classroom)
Learning Objectives: Through participation, students will be able to:
Describe the programs, history and membership benefits of the NRA.
Successfully complete the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course written examination.

Express: Appropriate Knowledge, Skills & Attitude Requisite To Firearms Training
State & Demonstrate: The Three Fundamental Rules of Safe Gun Handling
Demonstrate: The Proper Loading, Cocking, Un-cocking & Unloading Procedures With Firearm Of Choice
Demonstrate: The Ability To Shoot 2 & 5 Shot groups nine-inch or smaller in the middle of a target from a two handed standing position at a distance of 21 feet, using a handgun of choice.

Mobile Training
Our mobile division is equipped to bring the training to a location of your choice. A charge of 75 cents per mile per student from our Danbury, CT facility will be added to the course cost.
This course is shooting course and necessitates a duly authorized range or authorization to discharge firearms on private property.
